It comes as no surprise that County Waterford has been listed as one of the ‘Places to Go in 2024’ by the New York Times. Located in the South East of Ireland, the Viking city was noted for its history and natural treasures.
The Viking Triangle, Reginald’s Tower and Waterford’s many museums mean there is plenty to do for history enthusiasts but the New York Times also mentions Waterford’s coastline and natural amenities. Travel expert AnneLise Sorensen said: “Waterford’s natural riches rival its historical ones, notably the Copper Coast, hemmed by towering cliffs and scalloped coves. The coast forms part of the Waterford Greenway, a nearly 30-mile path along a disused rail line. Top off your Greenway adventure with afternoon tea amid one of Ireland’s largest collections of plants at Mount Congreve Gardens, which reopened in 2023 after a multimillion-dollar refurbishment.”
There are many activities available in the county including surfing in Tramore, hiking the historic trails of Lismore or enjoying the sunrise at some of Irelands most serene beaches. After a day of adventuring, be sure to include a dining experience with one of Irelands most well-known chefs, Paul Flynn at his seaside restaurant, the Tannery.
Famed for its hospitality there are many options for a relaxed visit including a stay at the 5-star Cliff House Hotel. The Cliff House Hotel is a 5-star, luxury hotel located close to Cork and Waterford, the perfect base for exploring the Irish coastline. The building seems to defy gravity, clinging to a cliff on the south side of Ardmore Bay where there has long been a fishing village. Regarded as one of the finest small luxury, the hotel features an intimate Irish destination spa as well as a Michelin-star restaurant.
